How We Source Our All Natural
Beauty Products
Our buying guidelines are quite simple. The natural cosmetics that we source need to actually be 100% natural, but also effective. Our organic makeup products need to actually contain certified organic ingredients. When we tell you our natural cosmetics
are non toxic and actually good for your skin, we need to be able to back that
up with facts. This is why we read the labels of each natural beauty product we want to
stock. We then research every single ingredient to see if there are any
known health concerns associated with it. If there are, it’s simple, we
don't carry it. If there is a grey area (as there is with many
ingredients) we research further until we feel confident that the ingredient,
at this current time, is considered safe. Basically, we don't cut corners, because we are passionate about what we do.
Everyone has
their own motivation for searching for natural beauty products. We
cater to these needs and therefore have a large selection of options including vegan
cosmetics, mineral makeup, gluten free skincare and more. We therefore still encourage our
customers to read the ingredients list so that they feel confident in their
purchase. Body care and makeup are personal products. Every customer has unique sensitivities. Some ingredients of some of our products, for example,
are not vegan. Some natural beauty products may contain nut oils not suitable
for those with allergies. And, even though the ingredients are 100% natural,
they may not work for you. We encourage you, and remind all customers, to
always read the ingredients, and to determine what they want from their switch
to organic beauty products. We are here to offer selection, choice, and
healthier alternatives that are effective and of course GLAM. The Green Kiss endeavors to stay up to date with current research on ingredients as it
becomes available. To break it down further, here are the 6 buying
guidelines applied to every natural cosmetic and non toxic beauty product that we
source...
The Criteria
1. All ingredients on the
ingredients list of a product must be deemed safe, from our research, at this
current time. Please note that research is ongoing for most ingredients out
there, and we do our best to stay current with new developments.
2. All of the natural beauty products
and organic cosmetics must be effective
3. All products must NOT be tested on animals. They may not be
vegan cosmetics, but they will be cruelty free
4. All products must be made following Fair Trade
practices.
5. When possible, we choose suppliers who support environmentally
friendly packaging choices
6. BC Beauty is important to us. When possible, we choose natural
makeup and beauty brands from British Columbia, Canada.
What is NOT in the Products we
Stock
The list really is huge. But
here are some of the 'worst offenders' in the beauty industry. We
guarantee that none of these are on the ingredients list of any of the products
we carry, along with the reason why...
Parabens - a
class of chemicals potentially linked to hormone disruption and breast
cancer. Used in cosmetics and skin care as preservatives.
Phthalates - a class of chemicals linked to hormone
disruption. Used in cosmetics and fragrance, but also in household soft
plastic products.
Sodium Laureth/Lauryl Sulfates - ingredients linked to cancer and
other health issues, but also just really too harsh for the skin. Used in
products to make them lather such as shampoo and bubble bath.
Triclosan - linked to hormone disruption and other health
concerns. Used in 'anti-bacterial' products like soaps and hand
sanitizers.
Fragrance/Parfum/Perfume - mystery ingredients that typically
includes a concoction of chemicals. Can trigger allergies, asthma,
headaches and can be linked to cancer. Fragrance is a mystery ingredient
because the word fragrance actually means nothing in terms of
ingredients. 'Fragrance' can be composed of any number of
ingredients. Companies do not have to disclose what ingredients make up
their fragrance. So you never really know what is going onto your skin.
BHA & BHT - linked to cancer and hormone disruption. Used
in a variety of cosmetic products on the market.
If you are making the switch to mineral makeup and natural cosmetics, good for
you. Let’s work together to make sure you find natural beauty products that
feel good on your skin and look great too. You will notice that the organic
makeup we select is chosen not only for its natural ingredients but also for
how well it works, we can’t have the pure without the glam! For example, we
went through a lot of natural mascara until we found the one with the most
curl, the most length and the most volume and an added bonus - it smells of berries!
And our mineral makeup is not only local but has staying power that you don’t
find in non organic makeup. Another plus; it conditions your skin as you wear
it so you look good, feel good and at the same time, are giving your skin a
real treat!
You may be new to all this but your skin
will soon thank you for making the move to all natural beauty products. Thanks
for shopping at The Green Kiss!
